The Southwood Community Center is located within Brian Bachmann Community Park and offers a wide variety of programming for all ages and abilities. When not occupied with programming, Southwood is available to rent for your next family reunion, homeowners association meeting, birthday party, or any other event that requires an ideal facility in a perfect location. While our building is a modest 4,700 square feet with a meeting and party room, you have easy access to a premiere skate park, sparkling swimming pool, and well-groomed athletic park.

    YOUTH PROGRAMS
    TAEKWON-DO CLASSES • REGISTRATION THROUGH FIRST CLASS DAY
    The class teaches physical and mental training for self-defense, health, and recreation. Learn principles and values to be a better person, athlete, and martial artist. Become a champion! Instructor Jose Aponte has 28 years of uninterrupted training and experience in ITF taekwondo and is a sixth-degree black belt from the International Taekwondo Federation. He's an active member of the official ITF taekwondo organization in the United States, with experience and participation in international championships and as a team trainer.

    AGGIELAND FLY FISHERS
    Are you interested in fly fishing, tying, and conservation? Join the Aggieland Fly Fishers for a free monthly education session taught by certified casting instructors. All skill levels are welcome. The Aggieland Fly Fishers Club meeting follows each session from 6:30-8 p.m. and is open to the public.

    Lose weight and condition your muscles, mind, and body while learning to defend yourself. The class is physical and mental training for self-defense and is ideal for all ages and abilities. Stroller babies are welcome. Instructor Jose Aponte has 28 years of uninterrupted training and experience in ITF taekwondo and is a sixth-degree black belt from the International Taekwondo Federation. He's an active member of the official ITF taekwondo organization in the United States, with experience and participation in international championships and as a team trainer.

    MEDITATION IN MOTION AND ART • REGISTRATION: APRIL 3-JULY 5
    Celebrate nature through moving meditation with an emphasis on agility, flexibility, balance, peace, and calmness training. The class also incorporates free-flow watercolor painting to encourage creative play and camaraderie. Participants move and flow for 40 minutes and flow onto paint for 20 minutes. All abilities are welcome. Painting experience and not required, and supplies will be provided.

    Memberships may be used for senior programming at the Southwood Community Center, Meyer Senior and Community Center, and the Lincoln Recreation Center. Memberships can be purchased in person at the facilities or by calling 979.764.2670 and are good for one calendar year from the date of purchase. Programs marked “membership” are free with a senior membership.

    BEGINNING LINE DANCE  
    The fun workout is filled with energizing routines set to fabulous music and is designed to teach beginners the steps and terminology of line dancing. We won’t have classes on June 9, 23; July 7, 10, 12, 21; and Aug. 4.

    BEGINNER LINE DANCE WORKSHOP  
    Learn the basics of beginner line dancing. The steps, turns, and names of various dances are taught in a slow-paced environment. We won’t have class on July 10.

    FOREVERSIZE
    The class is specially designed to encourage healthy lifestyle practices. Exercises accommodate all abilities and build strength, balance, and endurance. No class on May 15 or 17.

    BEGINNER YOGA 
    Beginner Yoga is a gentle, foundational yoga class featuring slow-paced stretching and simple breathing exercises. Learn relaxation techniques and beginner-level poses that inspire you to build your own practice and become comfortable with yoga. All levels are welcome, whether you are a seasoned yogi or a newcomer. Please bring a mat. We won’t have class on July 12. Sessions start June 7.

    The group collaborates with the Parks and Recreation Department to develop programs, events, and activities to serve seniors. Visitors are welcome.

    SPECIAL PROGRAMS

    QUILTING BASICS
    The six-week program gives participants with little or no experience in sewing and quilting an opportunity to learn and practice cutting, piecing, quilting, binding, and more. With provided materials, participants complete a baby quilt and a table runner. Participants must bring sewing machines in good working order and basic sewing supplies such as thread, scissors, pins, etc. You can only join the program during sessions one or two. RSVP by June 1 by calling 979.764.6371.

    SENIORS NIGHT OUT: DANCING & GAMES

    FOREST THERAPY AT SOUTHWOOD COMMUNITY CENTER • REGISTRATION: APRIL 3-CLASS DAY
    Experience the healing potential of trees and forests and boost your physical health and mental wellness through science-backed ecotherapy practice. You’ll be guided through forest-based sensory activities designed to heighten self-awareness and a sense of connectedness with the natural world. Engage the body’s senses through tasting and touching plants. Texas A&M Forest Service and the Center for Health and Nature bring the program to you. Participation is free, but registration is required by class day.

    RENTAL DETAILS
    Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis and will not be held without proper documentation and fees. Reservations can be made by calling 979.764.6351 or by visiting the Southwood Community Center, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Cash, credit card or check accepted. Checks should be made payable to “City of College Station.”


    DEPOSITS
    A security deposit is required for rentals. Portions or all of the deposit will be forfeited if damage, extra maintenance, or extraordinary cleanup occurs as a result of rental. Deposits will be refunded on the following conditions: (1) terms of your rental have been met, (2) facilities are left in good condition, or (3) cancellation procedures have been followed.

    CANCELLATION & REFUNDS
    Cancellation refunds more than 10 days: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, at least ten (10) days in advance of the originally scheduled date, a full refund of fees and deposits, including security deposit, will be returned to customer.
     
    Cancellation refunds less than 10 days: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, less than ten (10) days but more than 48 hours in advance of the originally scheduled date, deposits, including security deposits, will be forfeited by the customer in favor of the City.
     
    Cancellation refunds less than 48 hours: If the rental is cancelled, in writing, less than 48 hours in advance of the originally scheduled date, all fees and deposits, including security deposits, will be forfeited by the customer in favor of the City.
     
    Cancellation due to inclement weather: At the sole discretion of the City, if the event cannot be held or rescheduled due to inclement weather, fees and deposits, including security deposit shall be refunded to customer.
     
    Deposit refund post event: If the facility is left to standard and required keys (if applicable) are returned within 24 hours, the customer's deposit will be refunded. 

    All refunds are processed within 30 days of request by check. No cash refunds will be issued.
